B2B Trade Show Industry Continues to Rebound- CEIR

According to CEIR’s 2022 Q4 Index Report, the B2B exhibition industry is well on its way to rebound from the COVID-19-induced slump between 2020-21. Here are the report highlights-

  • Only 1.4% of physical events were cancelled in Q4 2022 compared to 97.9% in Q4 2020.
  • 23.6% of the completed events surpassed pre-pandemic participation levels.
  • Compared to 2019, event performance was down by 18% in Q4 2022- a significant recovery from the low of 54.9% in Q1 2021.
  • The index forecasts a complete recovery in 2024.

CEIR Releases Report to Explore Exhibitor Trends

CEIR recently released the 3rd report in its series of “Attendee Acquisition Trend Driving Growth.” The report explores the latest trends among businesses and exhibitors. Report highlights are as follows-

  • Digital marketing (67%), adjusting content to align with the needs of the attendees (61%), altering attendee prospecting strategies (56%), and analyzing marketing channel mix (48%) are the top four areas businesses would like to focus on in the future.
  • Improving data analytics for improved decision-making (55%), using social media marketing for lead generation (48%), and engaging with the attendees throughout the year (46%) are some strategies exhibitors will use to enhance their trade show performance.

TSE Report Suggests Strong Q1 2023 for the Trade Show Industry

Trade Show Executive (TSE) recently released its report on the performance of the trade show industry in Q1 2023. According to the report, the industry witnessed a strong quarter with considerable improvements in vital metrics. Take a look-

  • From the 72 trade shows included in the report, 60 events increased their NSF (Net Square Feet), 60 events witnessed more attendees, and 45 had double-digit growth.
  • In Q1, the events saw 9.9% more exhibitors, 7.3% higher exhibit space, and 9.5% more attendees.
  • Overall, the 72 events had 46,388 exhibitors, 1,517,627 attendees, and 17,221,374 NSF.

Recent Trade Show Success

Here are some recent trade shows that recorded impressive numbers-

  • Questex events, including IBS (International Beauty Show) and IECSC (International Esthetics Cosmetics & Spa Conference), reported record-breaking exhibitors, attendees, and revenue. The events had 22% more attendees compared to 2022. IECSC had a 25% higher revenue than in 2022 and grew 10% compared to 2019.
  • NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) 2023, held in April, witnessed a significant rise in the number of international attendees. The event had 64% more international attendees than in 2022.
  • IFPE (International Fluid Power Exposition) and CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2023, which took place in March in Las Vegas, exceeded the expected number of visitors and became the largest edition in the event's history. Compared to 2020, the event had 6% more attendees and 10.5% larger NSF.
